Our focus this year

Sight loss is preventable - if somebody knocks on the door

At least 3 in every 10 Ugandans have an eye condition; in some districts it is 5 in 10. Most of it - cataract, uncorrected short- and long-sightedness, glaucoma, trachoma - can be prevented or treated.

The barrier is not medicine. It is distance, cost and the fact that nobody checked, nobody referred them, or nobody followed up. Our VHTs and CHEWs fix all three, which is why community eye health is where we are putting our weight.

Health security

Two things stand between a village and an outbreak

A community health worker who knows what to look for, and a district system ready to act on what they report. We build both - so Uganda's next Ebola, cholera or landslide is caught in hours, not weeks.

1. Community-based disease surveillance

VHTs and CHEWs recognise priority disease warning signs and report immediately through eCHIS and district channels.

2. Disaster preparedness & response

Hazard maps, evacuation routes, safe spaces, pre-positioned kits and drills - so the first 72 hours are covered.

About COHEAL

Community Health Living works with the health workers Uganda already trusts. We train and equip them, link them to district systems and hold the follow-up that makes a referral mean something.

Our work spans community eye health, maternal and child health, livelihoods, climate resilience, research and health security - one delivery system, several entry points.
